Greece - Florida delivery trip. Las Palmas, just befor Atlantic crossing...
We have finally made it to the Canaries, leaving stormy Med behind. We've been stuck in Palermo for 10 days because of the weather, had a good passage along Africa's coast to Estepona (next to Gibraltar), stayed 3 days there, and with the good wind made it to Las Palmas. It's been almost 2 months now since we've started this expedition in Greece, and we've done only 2300 NM. Still like 3500 NM ahead.
No covid perturbations on the way. In Italy paperwork smoothly done in the marina office (test results from Greece needed), in Spain even easier.
At every stop, we are facing new technical issues plus of course the weather, but isn't it just the essence of sailing? As long as we don't have to manage with stupid bureaucracy, like I Greece, it is just fine.
Now, waiting in Las Palmas for another technical action. Saildrive repaired in Greece is still leaking, fuel tanks need to be cleaned, fuel gauges to be replaced.
Luckily life flows quite normally here, bars and restaurant are full, people socialise from the early morning to the police hour (10.00 pm). We hade a great dinner in a Japanese restaurant two days ago - although waited 1 hour to get inside, keeping a 2-meter safe distance in the queue of course.
We intend to stop in USVI, then through the Bahamas to FL. Hopefully set off this week, but who can tell...
all the best, Julia and Hania
