My recent trip from the Chesapeake to the anchorage outside Ellis Island was amazing. Best way to get experience.... on a safe boat with crew I trust- I mean, my friend has 9 and 11 yo boys on board. You betcha dad and mom are making the best decisions possible with zero risk. It was a great, easy downwind sail with just a touch of squalls.

They joke that sailing their Leopard 45 catamaran is like playing a video game.... and they are not wrong. Once the course was set in the autopilot? Night watches were just watching AIS, radar, and the chart. Changing course as needed by +1/10 degree(s) here and there. Easy peasy. Plus, due to the expected wind changes we doubled up on watches the second night... so I got some great learning time in with my girlfriend- and lots of chatter. :) Good times were had by all.

Still see a monohull in my future, but had a blast overall. Super posh accommodations.

Learnings from this experience? I need Smartwool base layers, a stretchy fleece and foulies of some variety. I also prefer to eat rather than not eat when underway.... some food is better for my tummy than no food. I'm sure there are others, but for now those are my reflections.
