After nearly 3 months cruising around this delightful group of islands it is almost time to leave. I have been knocked out by how friendly the people are here. They are mostly pretty poor, live in huts with wooden or bamboo frames, thatched roofs and walls woven from coconut fronds. Their food they grow in clearings in the forest and fish mainly from dugout canoes. The cruising here is what you might call pretty rugged, apart from here in Port Villa there are virtually no facilities for yachts so you need to be pretty much self sufficient. With the cyclone season fast approaching it is time for me to make the long passage back to New Zealand.
