Writing a Profile for a Dating Site<\/h2>\n

A good dating profile doesn\u2019t need to be long or clever. It simply needs to give other members a genuine sense of who you are, what you enjoy and what you\u2019re hoping to find.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been running Lovesail.com<\/strong><\/a>, the dating and social networking site for sailing and boating enthusiasts, for many years. One of my jobs is approving new member profiles, so over that time I\u2019ve read thousands of them – some excellent, some not so good, and quite a few that could have been much better with just a little more thought.<\/p>\n

The profiles that work best tend to have a few simple things in common. So, whether you\u2019re writing your first dating profile or giving an old one a refresh, here are my five top tips<\/strong> for creating a profile that gives you the best chance of making a genuine connection.<\/p>\n

1. Honesty<\/h2>\n

This really is the best policy! For whatever reason, some people feel the need to embellish, exaggerate, or just plain lie when writing a profile.<\/p>\n

Who will ever know? Well, think ahead a little. If you do meet your soulmate, at some point you\u2019re going to have to come clean and admit that you can\u2019t dance\/sail\/cook. This isn\u2019t a good start for any relationship.<\/p>\n

If you lie about things from the start, how is your future partner ever going to trust you? Be honest, and that includes your age!<\/strong><\/p>\n

2. Positivity<\/h2>\n

No one likes a grump. When writing a profile, try to be as positive as possible. Modern-day life has many challenges, leaving people very busy. One consequence of this is that we assess situations, and people, quickly to save time.<\/p>\n

So, faced with choosing between someone who loves\/enjoys\/has a passion<\/em> for something, and someone who hates\/gets irritated by\/can\u2019t stand<\/em> certain things, I know which one I\u2019d choose!<\/p>\n

A positive tone makes you more approachable.<\/p>\n

3. Short and Sweet<\/h2>\n

When writing a profile, try to keep it short and sweet. You don\u2019t need to run through your entire life story. Save that for your date, it will give you something to talk about.<\/p>\n
