{"id":2611,"date":"2013-08-29T21:41:43","date_gmt":"2013-08-29T20:41:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lovesail.com\/ls-news\/?p=2611"},"modified":"2023-09-14T12:43:36","modified_gmt":"2023-09-14T11:43:36","slug":"clipper-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lovesail.com\/ls-news\/clipper-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Clipper Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Clipper Race 2013-2014<\/h2>\n<p>The Clipper Race starts on Sunday 1st September 2013 from St Katherine&#8217;s Dock, in London.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Clipper Race is a sailing race that circumnavigates the globe. \u00a0What makes it special is that the 12 racing yachts are supplied by the organisers \u00a0along with a fully qualified Skipper for each yacht. \u00a0 The paying crew are racing novices and 3 training course have to be completed in order to participate in the race. \u00a0Participants can sign up to complete the entire race or one or more legs.<\/p>\n<p>The race course for 2013-2014 is as follows:<\/p>\n<p>Leg 1 &#8211; The race starts from <strong>London<\/strong>, <strong>UK<\/strong> then onto <strong>Brest<\/strong> in <strong>France<\/strong> then following the trade winds they head across the Atlantic to <strong>Rio de Janeiro<\/strong> in <strong>Brazil<\/strong>. \u00a0This is a total of 5630 miles and should take around 33 days to complete.<\/p>\n<p>Leg 2 &#8211; From <strong>Rio<\/strong> the yachts make use of the South Atlantic trade winds and head across to <strong>Cape Town<\/strong> in <strong>South Africa<\/strong>. \u00a0This leg of the journey is 3390 miles and takes about 18 days to cross the infamous Southern Ocean.<\/p>\n<p>Leg 3 &#8211; Still taking in the Southern Ocean and the most extreme leg of the race, the yachts head to <strong>Albany<\/strong> in <strong>Australia<\/strong> from <strong>Cape Town<\/strong>. \u00a0Not for the faint-hearted, this leg is 4700 miles of strong winds, large swells and gale force storms. \u00a0A relief to all when the coast of Australia is viewed some 23 days later.<\/p>\n<p>Leg 4 &#8211; This leg is a must for those sailing enthusiasts that want to sample all that the seas around Australia have to offer. \u00a0After leaving <strong>Albany<\/strong> the yachts make for <strong>Hobart<\/strong> in <strong>Tasmania<\/strong> and then up to <strong>Sydney<\/strong> and finishing in <strong>Brisbane<\/strong> on the East coast. \u00a0A 4200-mile route that will take around 28 days.<\/p>\n<p>Leg 5 &#8211; By now it is December and the yachts leave from <strong>Brisbane<\/strong> and head North through the islands of Papua New Guinea to <strong>Singapore<\/strong>. \u00a0From <strong>Singapore,<\/strong> it&#8217;s on to <strong>Qingdao<\/strong> in <strong>China<\/strong>, a mere 7400 miles and some 53 days at sea.<\/p>\n<p>Leg 6 &#8211; This leg is quite simply crossing the biggest ocean in the world. \u00a0Leaving <strong>China<\/strong> behind the boats cross the mighty Pacific Ocean to land in <strong>San Francisco Bay<\/strong> some 5600 miles and 33 days later.<\/p>\n<p>Leg 7 &#8211; This leg will see the yachts leave <strong>San Francisco Bay<\/strong> and head down to the <strong>Panama Canal<\/strong> and then onto <strong>Jamacia<\/strong>\u00a0and finishing in the big apple, \u00a0<strong>New York. \u00a0<\/strong>A great way to see the coasts of America. \u00a0This leg is some 5100 miles and will take about 38 days to complete.<\/p>\n<p>Leg 8 &#8211;
