About Me:

Hello from Captains Ian and Cindy Smit.

Want an adventure and maybe improve your sailing skills aboard a first class luxury yacht? We are sailing our Oyster 54 from NZ to Fiji, cruising Fiji for three months, sailing to Vanuatu and cruising there then back to NZ. Looking for contributing guests.

We have been professional crew together for the past seventeen years, sailed well over 100,000 nm and five ocean crossings. We both have professional business backgrounds and MBAs. My wife is also a nurse and an accomplished chef. While crewing on the Oyster World Rally, we had the opportunity to purchase a 54 in NZ, and are now cruising the S. Pacific. If you are looking for a fun vacation or off shore passage please contact us. First opportunity is the passage from NZ to Fiji.

Below is our prior blog, will update when we have the opportunity, but reading the boat for us to leave for six weeks.

After 6+ years working for the same owner on an Oyster 655; he decided to sell his yacht so we are now sailing as friends, not paid. He has provided us an excellent reference.

We are a seasoned couple with well over 14 years experience and100,000 nautical miles together; not combined. We have been solo crew on motor and sailing yachts to 85 feet (27 meters), and been 2nd officer and Chief Stew on a 175' Feadship (53 meters). Keeping a yacht in bristol condition and working with diverse people is our idea of a great life. We have sailed together in the Caribbean, Atlantic, South Pacific, and Indian Oceans; the Mediterranean Sea and Great Lakes. This includes, cruising from the Caribbean to and through the Mediterranean; from Maine to Mexico; Alaska to Costa Rica; Hawaii to New Zealand including Tahiti, Tonga, and Fiji. Ian holds his 200 ton Yacht Master, and has also sailed 3,000nm around Australia. Cindy holds a 100 ton USCG license, is a Registered Nurse, and an excellent cook. Ian is an advanced diver (Stress & Rescue, SSA) and Cindy has her PADI certification.

We plan to work in the yachting industry for another ten years, then retire to our own sailboat and circumnavigate. We both have MBA's which helps with yacht management, and Cindy's emergency room nursing background has proven critical in the past.

Our references are excellent. One employer actually called us the "perfect crew".
