About Me:

I am originally from the Netherlands (and still hold an EU passport), but now live on my boat on Vancouver Island,Canada. I have a 10 year old son whom I share with my ex-husband and who is with me 50% of the time. I currently teach at a Nautical Training School in Ladysmith and am getting my lovely boat Coquette, ready to sail to New Zealand in 2022...or 2023(?) on a one-way trip to ...?
In regards to dating, I would love to meet someone to share many adventures on the high seas with. I am happy to share boats, ( or have one boat in the Pacific and one in the Atlantic ) one can never do too much cruising! Lol.
My dream is to sail the Horn and sail Coquette back to her original home port in Durban, SA.
I love to laugh, love a morning coffee in the cockpit, and would love to be able to swim daily (though that is a challenge here on the Pacific Northwest Coast! Brrrr!)
I am a very capable and competent skipper or crew member, and am happy to take on whatever needs doing, from cooking to engineering projects to ...! I have held many positions as Captain over the years on various vessels, but my true love is sailing.
I definitely see seafaring competencies and experiences of fellow crew members to be an asset, not a threat.
If dating doesn’t work then I would love to round up a crew of women to sail Coquette to a Tahiti with in the spring of 2022.

Sailing Experience:

My sailing experience is quite extensive. I made my career in the commercial marine industry, and hold a Master Mariner certificate of competency. I have sailed on pleasure craft across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, as well as on Commercial vessels, including various passenger vessels, Ro-to ferries, cruise ships, and traditional sailing ships.
I currently teach as a Transport Canada Accredited instructor at a nautical training academy on Vancouver Island and run (as Master) a traditional wooden passenger schooner, on the west coast of British Columbia on expedition trips.
I am preparing my boat to sail to New Zealand and beyond, hoping to depart in 2022.
Coquette is a 45ft Van de Stadt design sloop built in 1973 in Durban, South Africa . She sailed the Cape to Rio race in 1976, and then the Seychelles before being sailed to Canada via the Panama and Hawaii. She is a very comfortable and fun boat to sail, and with numerous refit items completed, is almost ready to sail offshore again. I can’t wait!
