- About Me:
I'm in this as a long term lifestyle, not just a sail. I don't do good land, nor stay in marinas.
I do spend a fair amount of time helping others - and enjoy it. You will often find me rebuilding someones diesel, building a new refrigeration system, or wiring someones boat to supplement funding my addiction - boats . I just completed having a wood shop on the dock while building the interior of a friends 47' trawler. An update - After my friend passed away, I currently own the trawler. 3 boats and can’t sail too far until I get two sold. :(
There is a Harley in the aft stateroom when sailing. She gets unloaded into the Whaler and to the shore at most ports of call. It makes for a unique way of exploring the islands, and other countries. Yet I'd rather walk 5 miles than ride, unless it's a day trip.
I'm not out here camping and have built a nice, comfortable place to live. Everything from a washer, to a freezer capable of carrying ice cream thru the pacific. She is an older boat, one of the first glass, so can you say heavy seaworthy, with all wood interior - constantly improving and modernizing, and NOT a newer plastic Gucci palace! I'd rather varnish teak handrails, coamings, and cap rails, than polish stainless or aluminum.
There are a couple guitars aboard, though I think they may be broke from the sounds when I play. I definitely have an eclectic taste in music, from Reggae to Rock.
All the water toys are aboard - from Kayaks, SUP, dive tanks, etc.. and I love playing in, on, and under the water.
I often start my day with a couple cups of cappuccino, followed by a good run. Loved to ride a road bike 20 miles or so while in the states, and will start again when I get somewhere practical. Enjoy a healthy diet, prefer seafood over a meatloaf - but have been known to make a fair one of those at the fire station - and the last "fast food" was 30 years ago.
I'm allergic to nicotine, perfume, and religious as well as political discussions. I prefer a "That's easy, watch this" attitude. :)
Having done my best to help society, and make this planet a nicer place to live, I'm ready to go sea it! Looking for a fun loving, energetic partner, not island hoping crew. Ideally I would love to sail until my last day on the planet - and when I stop breathing, toss me overboard and keep on sailing - One favor - let the breathing stop from natural causes - please.
- Sailing Experience:
Sailed the Caribbean on a 32' for 7 years with no motor, and the next 29 with the current 52' which I “found” sunk and said “that’s easy, watch this!” LOL
She has thousands of wonderful sea miles under her keel since. Yes, I put in a motor, and a few other toys. You'll still find me sailing to windward, not motoring. ;)
- Sailing Qualifications:
I taught sailing in the 80's, let my Capt license expire in the 90's, and there isn't one part of the boat I can't build from scratch, or fix for others. I don't sail a race boat, yet also realize any time there are two boats in the ocean, it's a race. LOL
- Nautical Miles Logged:
- Never enough. :)
- Retired Fire/Med, current Independent contractor as shipwright, fiberglass, refrigeration, electrical, rigging, painting, yada yada... I fix and repair sailboats for others. Currently try to stay retired. Hahaha
