- About Me:
I live in a Victorian home on a quiet street in Cole Valley San Francisco. My dog Reggie, 4 year old English Cocker Spaniel, lives with me. We are getting ready to start a new phase of my life as I move into my retirement next year (2021). Besides sailing, my current passions are dogs, gardening, yoga, mountains, the outdoors, cycling, cooking, music, music, music. I gave up drinking and getting stoned a couple years ago and I seem to be happier sober (I have zero judgement of others who are not). I am gearing up for new adventures, hopefully on a boat! I am open to coastal cruising, blue water sailing, circumnavigation...the sea is the limit! I already love to swim and skin dive. I want to learn to spear fish, scuba dive, boogie board, celestially navigate, fishing, etc.
- Sailing Experience:
I love to sail. I am an adventurous person. I like the real-time immersion required to sail safely and with confidence. It is meditative. Sailing just works for me on many levels.
While I did sail dinghies in my youth on Lake Erie and Lake Michigan, I became much more serious about sailing when I moved to San Francisco Bay in the mid-1980’s. I have been sailing the SF Bay ever since. I have been skippering J-105’s for almost two decades. While day sailing in SF Bay is a lot of fun, and challenging, it is a very narrow sailing experience base.
When I began seriously planning for my retirement, cruising was an obvious component. I know I want to do some blue water sailing, crossing oceans. The idea of dropping the anchor in any cove along the coast also attracts me - preferably in warmer climates. To broaden my experience base, I purchased Coastal Passage Making and Ocean Passage Making curricula at Club Nautique in Sausalito/Alameda. I am in the middle of that training program now, which is quite extensive - navigation, motoring, anchoring, electronics, provisioning, managing a crew, cruise planning, celestial navigation, boat systems, safety, safety, safety.
