- About Me:
Former tall ship sailor looking to get back aboard "small" boats. Seeking sailing, friendship, heartfelt connections, meaningful conversations, interesting places.
A nearly lifelong sailor, most recently aboard tall ships, I took time off to “dance with my shadow,” study Relational Neuroscience, and such. Now stepping onto a path to unfold toward my intention of sailing and other travel starting spring 2022. Send me a note or friend request if you might like to sail or swap stories over a cuppa next season.
I can only sail and meet locally right now.
Interests include dogs, cats, horses, and other animals, organic gardening, community, watercolors, outdoors, progressive politics, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and messing with clay. I love good music and a wide variety of cuisines and cultural expressions. My taste is eclectic tho I especially love the solid organic elegance of the Arts and Crafts style.
Not looking for romance/intimate relationship but unopposed to that developing out of friendship with a sailor who can meet my depth, scope, and finds agreeable my obvious progressive bent.
- Sailing Experience:
I fell in love with sailing my first time out, an Islander 30 out of Annapolis at age 10. Took sailing lessons at 11; bought an MIT Tech II sailing dinghy at 14; often single-handed a wooden Merry Mac catboat on the NH shore my 14th summer during which I also foraged and used a frog gig to supply my supper.
In adulthood, I tried sooo hard to live a normal life. Married a landlubber, unschooled two kids in a permaculture garden, became active in my community, went toe-to-toe with RRR elements in homeschooling and made a few waves, divorced, bought my own house, jumped back into the workplace, single-parented for a few years, served as HOA board, Sea Scout leader, and freelance reporter for the local paper.
Began to bring sailing back into my life in 2005 by joining a weeklong Chesapeake Bay bareboat charter with friends. Then rented Flying Scots.
In 2007 became the founding "Skipper" or adult leader of a Sea Scout unit that received recognition in the Congressional Record. Lead organization and mentored scouts. Created and fostered partnerships with key community leaders, businesses, organizations for support of volunteer organization. Recruited scouts, adult members, and consultants. Lead program development and managed sailing and other excursions and fundraising initiatives. Trained adults and scouts in sailing and leadership. Initiated and managed drive to raised over $23,000 in 16 months for repairs to regional training vessel.
Grew my unit to 17 scouts and 34 supporting adults within 24 months. Mentored 3 other newbie Skippers in starting their units. Sailing coach for another’s unit for 2 years. Turned my unit over to another Skipper after 5 years.
