Blowing away the cobwebs
Yesterday I finally managed to get out on the water for the first time this year, and what a great day for sailing.
We left Lymington around 09:30 so not too early a start (I'm not a morning person!). My cousin is kind enough to let me hang out on his Jeanneau 53, so with a crew of 7 we hit the Solent. The wind was probably force 5/6 and gusting to 7. A little wet but we managed to dodge any major showers. It was a little cold, no bracing is a better word, so plenty of layers served us well.
It was also a shake down sail for the boat as well as the crew, so we took things gently, safety being uppermost in our minds. A bow and stern line was left attached but well secured on deck and fenders again were left attached but pulled in and laid on deck. The biggest concern was engine failure and being a big boat we wanted to make sure we were prepared just in case we had any problems.
We didn't have a destination, so just bounced around the Solent pointing out the landmarks to new crew members, Brian May's house is always a popular spot, and generally chatting, drinking tea, eating chocolate digestives and catching up with everyone's antics over the Winter.
