About Me:

PhD in Aquatic Ecology & Ecotoxicology. MSc in Fish & Wildlife Biology. BSc in Biology. BSc in Natural Resource Management, BSc in Policy Analysis. K-12 Science Educator License. Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician. I study aquatic ecotoxicology; lentic, lotic and marine. Aside from sailing, I enjoy rock climbing, kite boarding, mountain biking, building guitars, scuba/snorkel, welding, woodworking, long backpacking trips, and a sundry of other activities.

Fit and trim. Adventurous but calculated. I do not drink, smoke, do or do drugs. DnD free. Vegetarian unless I am sailing and then I will eat seafood if sustainably harvested. Politically liberal but not judgmental.

I am landlocked. But I fell into a fun and rewarding job that I refuse to leave. Backcountry skiing, climbing and hang gliding satiated my taste for sailing durring grad school but there is no replacement. Most my recent sailing as been in Alaska and Alaska or Patagonia IS where my heart is. But North American summers and fall are busy for my career. So, I am doing a minor refit on my boat and moving her to the Sea of Cortez next year. I am looking for a sailing partner for weekend, week-long, multi-week to multi-month trips.

Sailing Experience:

I grew up sailing in Wisconsin and on the Great Lakes. Most my recent (10 years) sailing was in Alaska, but my career now prevents summer vacation time. I am refitting my boat (as of 2019) and will be moving it to warmer climes as I have extensive comp-time (vacation hours) and more ability to leave work in winter. After years of looking I found a 10,000lbs heavy displacement full keeler narrow enough to transport without a wide-load permit so I have the ability to switch from Pacific to Atlantic or even Great Lake locations within each season to pursue both research and fun trips.
Planned short term (1-4 years): Sea of Cortez, Fl-Cuba, Fl-Bahamas. PNW-SanJuans-BC. Lake Superior. (extended weekend, multi-week to multi month trips)
Planned 3 to 6 years: Alaska as home base again if my career allows. Or if limited to Dec-May vacations: Caribbean, South Gulf of Mexico, Patagonia (been there before) depending on logistics and air fare. (Multi-week to multi month)

Sailing Qualifications:

I have been sailing and messing around in boats since I was born. All my immediate family has it in their blood. Recently, mostly coastal cruising. Some off shore crossings. As a child and during my undergrad it was mostly buoy racing and sailboat camping. Most my career included marine and aquatic ecology field research, which puts me on boats a good chunk of that time. Happy to discuss any and all in detail by personal message or email.
